2024 Humboldt County Fair

It was a beautiful day during our second year at the Humboldt County Fair on Saturday, July 27th! Last year we had a bonus market since the fair didn't fall into our schedule, but this year it worked out perfectly. Of course, it's fair season, so you could see the humidity in the air, but the slight breeze we had saved the day.

Our market was set up north of the Polka Hall building. In the grass, we had the majority of our vendors set up. There's a little shelter with picnic tables. Under the shelter, we had a couple vendors, our kids craft, and a trio from Cracked Reeds. They're a local saxophone quartet. At Arts Fest last year Cracked Reeds played, and it was a lot of fun. It's always nice to have music at any market!

Usually, our downtown markets are busy in the first half and slower during the last half. We learned last year that the fair tends to be the opposite. 4-H animal shows started at 8am when we started, so it was pretty quiet until 9:30am or so. Then it really picked up. Though that's how we anticipated the crowds to be it didn't stop of from metaphorically sweating about it; all of us had already been literally sweating all morning.
Our craft this week was making cutie, little star wands! I helped a few kids get through the craft, but quickly wasn't able to be in multiple places at once. It's best when someone can be at the craft station the entire time. We've been very lucky most of the markets this year to have help in that area. The kids who did participate were really into it, making it worthwhile!
Our Vendors:
As always, we had a wide variety of products being sold by our vendors: anything from produce and baked goods to handmade wooden items, decor, candles, clothing, and accessories. We always have a nice variety of handmade, small businesses, and third-party vendors! There's always something for everyone.
Our next Humboldt Farmer's Market is on Saturday, August 10th. Downtown Humboldt is currently undergoing road resurfacing. They are working on one side at a time, and we do not know how long it will take to complete. To avoid any confusion and ensure the safety of market-goers, we are planning to hold our next market at John Brown Park, which is 2 blocks south of our usual spot on Main Street. The ISU Extension trailer is scheduled to be there, and we'll have root beer floats for free-will donation. The money raised from root beer floats will help keep our market going and growing. As always, we will post all details on Facebook.

Until then stay safe, be kind and we'll talk soon!
