Storms didn't ruin our fun!

Last Saturday, August 9th didn't go as we planned/hoped, but it all worked out great! Due to weather, we ended up starting at 10am and being set up in the East storefront of The Finch Block.
We had a lot of vendors back out, rightfully so, but we did have 7 vendors brave the weather. For vendors with perishable items, like ourselves, we try our hardest to make it possible to sell and not let product go to waste.

We did have a kids’ craft set up. Kids were able to sit down and create their very own lucky sun catcher. Joe Hadar even hung out in the West storefront and jammed!
This was the first market this season that the weather was a big challenge. We'd had a few where it'd rain overnight or til the hour before set up then be perfect weather for our market. It's hard to rely on the radar until the morning of, so at 5-530am we saw the giant red splotch coming our way at 8am and decided to postpone.
Sammi said, “I got vendors. You got PR?”
“YUP!”
I got busy making posts to put on Facebook and share everywhere I could. Sammi created a large group text to inform and keep our vendors up to date. KHBT 97.7 The Bolt was nice enough to help spread the word, too. Oh, and Connor Fiddler (Night Owl Books) was out in the last of the rain directing anyone he could to us!
For a split second leading up to 8am we questioned our decision, but at 8:05 the wind came out of nowhere and things were flying around our neighborhood. Even with weights everyone's canopies would've gone flying had we not postponed. When we realized the rain wouldn't be over by 10am we reached out to Ann and Phil (The Finch Block) and asked if there was any way we could use their space. They saved the day and allowed us to set up in there!
While we are a rain or shine market, the safety of our vendors and market goers are first priority during inclement weather. It’s never worth putting anyone’s life in danger.
We've learned that our community will show up for us as long as they are informed. At 10am The Finch Block was full of people! It was really awesome to see. We really do have a great support system from our community.
Thank you for always showing up for us!!
We're going to (fingers crossed) have great weather next Saturday, August 23rd!
