Mother's Day Saturday, Opening Market RECAP!

First off, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

If you missed the first Humboldt Farmer's Market of 2023 yesterday I'm here to fill you in! When we looked at the weather early morning the hourly weather looked beautiful 8am-12pm. After the third random downpour we wondered if we'd made a mistake to push forward. At noon, however, we were all super proud of the turn out.

Today's sponsors; Dibble&Bloom, Bomgaars, and Tracey Gord

The activity sponsors this week were Dibble & Bloom (flowers), Bomgaars (potting soil) and Tracey Gord (cards & supplies). Shoutout to Function First Spine & Sport for letting us use their canopy. We didn't know how bad we'd need an extra one until it was offered!

With it being Mother's Day weekend we had an activity station where kids could pot up a flower, design the pot, and color/stamp a card. It was so cute to see dad's bringing the kids downtown to craft a gift for mom. All the kids loved it!

We had take home activity bags to hand out to every kid! In the bag included some crosswords, Humboldt Farmer's Market vinyl sticker, a pack of crayons, and a coloring book; designed for the Humboldt Farmer's Market by 2View Photo&Design! We ended up handing out 22 of the 50 bags we had prepared. Hopefully we didn't miss any kiddos, but I think that's amazing we had so many kids stop by.

If you missed yesterday's market, no worries! The coloring book is available for FREE download. click here to download

Color the cover and return to the May 27th (School's Out) or June 10th (Father's Day Saturday) Humboldt Farmer's Markets for a prize! We will also be handing out the remaining activity bags at the next market, May 27th (School's Out).

We knew we were going to start off small with only a handful of vendors, but what we didn't anticipate was one of the vendors having an initially scary but minor medical emergency right before the market was starting. It all was kind of chaos for the first hour or so. Right after we got the inital chaos of calling the ambulance handled a rush of people showed up, kids wanted to craft, rain started again, and the wind picked up; it nearly took half of the canopys with it. Like I said, chaos. We all came together and took care of everything thrown (sometimes literally) at us.

It did settle down and ran smoothly for the rest of the day. It was so fun to see people excitedly find their favorite vendors and talk/catch up and for the three of us committee members to talk about our vision for the future of the Humboldt Farmer's Market. It seems silly to point out the small talk of the day because that's everywhere you go around here. I'm still adjusting back to small town living and loving being back in the small community. All of that goodness definitely thrives at the Farmer's Market.

Not pictured (oops!): Three Rivers Kringla was also set up. Since Sammi & I (Kelsey) have been working hard to get the Humboldt Farmer's Market going we had a minimal display of kringla. We'll have more prepared for the next market!

The rain may not have been in favor of us yesterday, but it was a great start to this 2023 market season! We knew the first market would start off smaller. We know it's early for a lot of produce, but we also know people have been itching to get out of the house!

Every market will be bigger and better!

We hope to see you at the next Humboldt Farmer's Market! May 27th, School's Out theme. We'll be handing out more activity bags and have a little prize for every kid who brings back the cover of their coloring book. Again, that can be downloaded for free on the "files and forms" page on our website. Check out all of our Market days and themes in the photo below.
